send throttling marketing cloud

Before we understand Salesforce Marketing Cloud's shipping restriction feature, we need to know why shipping restriction is used.

One of the most common use cases for transmission restriction is to monitor your CTA traffic via email or SMS (Call to Action) communication.

Most email or text messages have a CTA to call or fill out an online form, or to visit an application or website.

Let's imagine a scenario where you have to send 100,000 customers emails about a new exclusive offer and CTA calls their toll-free number. If you send the email all at once and most of your customers call customer service as soon as they receive the email. There will be chaos in the call center, there will be a long wait to serve all of your customers, or at worst, your phone systems may have problems handling heavy traffic and you may be inactive.

If we need to avoid scenarios like the ones above, we can use the Sales Limit Marketing Cloud's Send Limit feature.

What is the send throttling?

Send restriction is a feature available in Salesforce Marketing Cloud that allows you to control the number of emails or SMS sent in a given period.

This feature sends emails or SMS for the time interval you set each day, from the day you send emails or SMS until all of your emails or SMS are sent.

You need to set the following options for sending email or SMS using the send restriction feature.

  • Delivery window: The range of hours between which you want to send emails or SMS to your subscribers.
  • Hourly Threshold: Maximum number of emails or SMS that can be sent in an hour.

Imagine a scenario where you need to send 100,000 emails and plan to send emails every hour from 10:00 a.m. to 5,000:00 a.m. Teacher: At 8 p.m. Teacher: With the transmission limit function.

Day 1: 5000 emails are sent every hour from 10:00 a.m. Teacher: At 8 p.m. Teacher: A total of 50,000 emails are sent on the first day of 100,000

Day 2: The acceleration send function continues to send 5,000 emails per hour from 10:00 a.m. Teacher: At 8 p.m. Teacher: A total of 50,000 emails will be sent on the second day.

Therefore, this feature will complete sending your 100,000 total emails in 2 days by sending 5,000 emails per hour.

How do I enable sending the restriction?

In most cases, shipping restriction isn't enabled by default in your Salesforce Marketing Cloud organization. If you don't see this option, register a case with the Marketing Cloud support team to activate it. In one day it lights up and you can use it.
